Start with what it is doing

Furnace problems worth checking.

Tell us what the furnace is doing and when the problem started. We inspect the equipment and take the readings needed to find the cause before recommending a repair.

Lights, runs briefly, shuts off

Repeated starts and shutdowns can have several causes. We check ignition, airflow, venting, controls, and safety operation as needed to find the problem.

Blower runs, no heat

We check the thermostat, ignition system, controls, and heating operation to find why the air is not warming.

Booming or banging at startup

Stop using the furnace and call for service. An unusual bang at ignition needs professional attention.

A CO alarm has gone off

Get everyone outside and call 911. Do not re-enter or restart the equipment until emergency responders say it is safe.

Some rooms never get warm

We check airflow, ductwork, equipment operation, and the heating needs of the affected rooms before recommending changes.

It smells like burning

Do not assume an unfamiliar burning smell is harmless. Stop using the equipment if safe and seek help. For smoke or fire, leave and call 911.

Useful answers before you call

Furnace questions.

Why does my furnace start and then shut off?
Ignition, controls, venting, airflow, or another operating problem may be involved. Avoid repeated resets and arrange service. We inspect the equipment and test the conditions related to the shutdown.
Can you provide a second opinion on a heat exchanger concern?
Yes. Share the original findings with us and we can arrange an inspection. A heat exchanger concern deserves careful attention and a clear explanation. Keep equipment that has been identified as unsafe off while the concern is assessed.
How do I know when to replace my furnace?
We consider safety, condition, reliability, repair cost, parts availability, and how well the furnace heats your home. We explain repair and replacement options so you can decide with useful information.
What should I do about a burning smell?
Do not assume an unfamiliar burning smell is harmless. Stop using the equipment if safe and contact us for guidance. If you see smoke or fire, leave and call 911. For a gas odor or a carbon monoxide alarm, get outside and contact emergency help.
Does a furnace need annual maintenance?
Arrange regular heating maintenance and follow the requirements for your equipment. Fuel-burning furnaces need attention to combustion, venting, and safe operation as well as reliability. One-time maintenance starts at $129 per eligible system, and annual plans are also available.
Should I replace the AC at the same time?
That depends on the condition and compatibility of the equipment. We compare the scope of a furnace-only replacement with a combined system when appropriate, and explain the costs and tradeoffs.
What changes with a high-efficiency furnace?
A condensing furnace can use fuel more efficiently, but installation may require changes to venting, condensate drainage, and other connected equipment. We explain the selected model, expected installation work, and any shared chimney considerations before you choose.
