Start with what it’s doing

You don’t have to know what broke.

Tell us what changed and we’ll take it from there. We will inspect the equipment and take the readings needed to find the cause.

Running, but not cooling

Warm air can have several causes, including an outdoor unit, refrigerant, or airflow problem. We check the system to find yours.

Ice on the equipment

Turn cooling off and contact us. A frozen coil needs to thaw before we can assess the underlying cause.

Water around the indoor unit

A drain, pan, or other condensate problem may be involved. Keep clear of wet electrical equipment and call for service.

A breaker keeps tripping

Do not repeatedly reset the breaker. Leave the equipment off and have the cause checked.

Weak airflow

We check filters, the blower, coils, and ductwork for conditions restricting airflow.

Running without reaching the temperature

We check operation, airflow, and the conditions affecting how much cooling reaches your home.

The house feels humid

We assess how the equipment is operating and whether airflow, controls, or humidity management needs attention.

New or unusual noises

Tell us when the sound occurs. We inspect the equipment before recommending parts or repairs.

While you wait for the van

While you wait for AC service.

These simple steps can help you stay more comfortable while you wait. If you smell burning, see sparking, or notice a safety concern, keep clear and seek help promptly.

Turn cooling off if you see ice.

Call us for guidance and allow the coil to thaw. Do not try to chip the ice away or use a heat source on it.

Use a reasonable thermostat setting.

Lowering the setting further will not make a struggling system cool faster. Tell us what temperature the house is reaching.

Check an accessible air filter.

If you can safely reach the filter, check its condition and replace it with the correct type if needed. Leave equipment panels closed.

Close sunny blinds and curtains.

Reducing direct sunlight can help limit heat entering the house while the AC is down.

Use fans where people are sitting.

Moving air may help you feel cooler. In dangerous indoor heat, move to an air-conditioned place rather than relying on fans.

Limit indoor heat sources.

Avoid using the oven or other heat-producing appliances while the home is already hot.

A seasonal maintenance visit gives us a chance to inspect performance, drainage, and component condition. Ask us about a single visit or an annual maintenance plan.

AC service pricing

What an AC service call costs.

Review the diagnostic charges below. We explain repair pricing before you approve work.

Regular business hours
$129

After hours, weekends, holidays
$275 and up

Emergency diagnostic

Includes the trip and the first 30 minutes of diagnostic and repair labor for one system. Evenings, weekends, and daytime holidays are $275. Overnight and late holiday windows are $375.

1 year
30 days
Repair warranty coverage. Middletown-supplied repair parts carry a one-year parts warranty, and the repair labor is covered for 30 days. The price you approve includes the part, the installation, testing, and cleanup.

Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and after-hours pricing begins at 5:00 PM. Additional emergency labor is billed in 30-minute increments. Parts, materials, refrigerant, and additional labor are quoted separately and priced before approved work begins. The diagnostic charge is separate and is not credited toward the repair. Payment is due at the time of service.

AC diagnostics

We test the system to find the problem.

We check the equipment, take relevant operating readings, and explain the findings. The tests depend on the symptoms and system, and may include the following.

  • Capacitor readings compared with the component rating.
  • Contactor condition and control voltage.
  • Compressor and fan motor electrical readings and startup behavior.
  • Refrigerant pressures and temperatures when needed for the diagnosis.
  • Air temperatures across the indoor coil.
  • Filter condition and airflow checks.
  • Condensate drainage, pan, and safety switch.
  • Indoor and outdoor coil condition.

Straight answers about common failures

Common AC repairs, explained.

These are some components and conditions we check during an AC visit. Similar symptoms can have different causes, so we test your system before recommending a repair.

Run capacitor

We test the capacitor against its rating and check the equipment it supports before recommending replacement.

Contactor

We inspect the electrical relay that starts the outdoor equipment for wear and operating problems.

Refrigerant concerns

Low refrigerant can result from a leak or an incorrect charge. We check the system and explain the repair and charging options.

Condensate drainage

We inspect drainage and safety switches to find the reason for water backup or a cooling shutdown.

Frozen indoor coil

We assess airflow and refrigerant operation after the coil has thawed to identify why it froze.

Fan or blower motor

We check motor operation, electrical readings, and related components before recommending a repair.

Your options
A significant repair deserves a clear comparison. We can explain the repair and suitable replacement options, including the scope and cost of each. If a repair makes sense for your home, we will tell you.
Repair or replace

Age alone doesn’t make the decision.

We compare the repair cost with the condition of the system, its service history, and suitable replacement options. We explain the choices so you can decide what makes sense for your home.

  • What failed, and whether the rest of the system is in shape to outlive the repair.
  • The total repair cost compared with suitable replacement options.
  • Refrigerant type and whether it’s still practical to service.
  • The service history and frequency of breakdowns.
  • How long you plan to be in the house.
  • Whether the comfort problem is the equipment at all, or the ductwork feeding it.

Useful answers before you call

Air conditioning questions we get every summer.

What should I do if my AC is frozen?
Turn cooling off and contact us. Allow the ice to thaw without chipping it or applying heat. If there is water near electrical equipment, keep clear. We need to inspect the system to determine why it froze.
What does an AC service visit cost?
The regular-hours diagnostic is $129 for the first system and $125 for each additional system on the same visit. Active plan members pay $99 per system at any hour. Repairs are separate and quoted before you approve the work.
Can you add refrigerant?
We check why the system is not cooling and whether its refrigerant charge is correct. If refrigerant is low, we explain the findings, leak investigation, and repair or charging options before you decide.
Do you offer same-day AC service?
Same-day availability depends on the schedule, location, parts, and the problem. Call or text for urgent service so we can check. Online booking is best for future appointments.
Why does my AC run without cooling the house?
Possible causes include airflow restrictions, dirty coils, refrigerant issues, duct losses, or a capacity concern. We check operating readings and the installation before recommending a solution.
Can you help with indoor humidity?
Yes. We check system operation, airflow, controls, and the conditions in your home. We explain whether an adjustment, repair, or humidity-control option would help.
How often should cooling equipment be serviced?
Arrange cooling maintenance annually and follow the requirements for your equipment. One-time maintenance is $129 per eligible system. Annual plans are $325 for two visits or $600 for four visits for one HVAC system. Both plans include the $99 member diagnostic rate.
Do you service other equipment brands?
Yes. We repair and maintain many brands of air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductless systems. Tell us the brand, model, and problem so we can confirm the service you need.

Real Google reviews from AC calls, quoted word for word.

Middletown HVAC is absolutely 5 stars, wish I could give more stars! My AC stopped working on a weekend during a heat wave, I called another large and well known company and they couldn’t come until Tuesday, Middletown came out within an hour of my call, Brian and his wife kept me updated of arrival time, had my AC up and running in less than an hour! They could’ve told me that my AC unit was a gonner when the fan didn’t come back on but Brian knew exactly what to do and did it and my AC was fixed right away and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg! If you need HVAC service please call them, absolutely the best! I am going to get on their maintenance program as well, absolutely fabulous!

Heather and Brian (husband and wife) came out to service my two HVAC systems. They were friendly and professional and Brian explained everything very clearly to me. He took his time and was clean and thorough. I love that they are a small family business and that they are honest and trustworthy, unlike other HVAC companies I have used in the past. I would highly recommend them!

Brian came out same day to check our AC. Hottest day of May, he was a life saver, we were sweating our butts off. He replaced our thermostat and was done within 45 mins. Couldn't recommend these guys more! Fair pricing, thorough check and so nice!

Bryan and his wife are such a pleasure. After our last HVAC company (whom we were clients of for 10+ years) left us high and dry when our unit broke last summer, Bryan came to the rescue. From the first call to their office, the initial consult and beyond, they have provided nothing but top notch service.

They are extremely timely, communicative and their prices are reasonable. They’ve won us as clients for life.

Brian came right away to my mom’s house and diagnosed the heater issue. Had the part the next day and had my mom’s heater up and running for her. He saved her from another company who told her she needed a whole new system. I would def use them and recommend them to anyone.

I had a great experience with Middletown HVAC!!

My heater stopped working and I gave them a call. Heather answered the phone and was so helpful. Bryan came out to look at it just a few hours later. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and kind.

My husband wasn’t home yet when he identified the problem. Bryan explained the function of part the was broken in a way that was easy for me to grasp.

We will definitely be calling Middletown HVAC again if we ever have any heating or cooling issues!!
