Common boiler problems

Something not right with your heat?

A change in heat, pressure, noise, or water level deserves a proper inspection. These symptoms can have several causes. We test the system to find yours.

The boiler will not start

A burner, control, fuel supply, or safety issue may be stopping the boiler. We check the cause before resetting or replacing parts.

Some rooms are not warming up

We check circulation, valves, vents, and controls to find out why heat is not reaching those rooms.

The pressure has changed

An unusual pressure reading or repeated need for water should be checked. The right operating pressure depends on your system.

Banging or gurgling noises

New or persistent noises can point to an air, water flow, or steam distribution problem. Tell us when the noise happens.

The boiler keeps starting and stopping

Frequent cycling can have several causes. We check the controls and system operation rather than guessing from the symptom.

Water is leaking around the boiler

The leak may come from piping, a valve, a pump, or the boiler itself. Keep clear of hot water and call us to find the source.

Boiler replacement

The right boiler for your home.

We install Navien and Weil-McLain boilers. We review your heating system, hot water needs, fuel, and venting before recommending equipment. You receive a written proposal with the installation scope and applicable warranty terms.

  • Equipment matched to your home. We compare suitable boiler options and explain the differences in plain language.
  • Gas, oil, hot water, and steam experience. We consider the system you have and what a replacement would need.
  • A complete written scope. Equipment, piping, venting, controls, and included work are spelled out in your proposal.
  • Warranty terms you can review. Coverage depends on the equipment and installation. We include the applicable terms with your estimate.
  • Service after installation. Ask us about annual boiler maintenance and a plan for your equipment.
  • A local team you can reach. Call or text us with questions before and after the work.

Annual boiler maintenance

Heat is only part of the job. Safety comes first.

A boiler burns fuel to heat your home. Regular service helps us check that it is burning properly, venting correctly, and responding to its safety controls. Poor combustion or a venting problem can create dangerous conditions, even when the house still feels warm. Have your boiler checked by a Middletown HVAC expert.

Combustion

Check how the fuel is burning.

Venting

Check how exhaust leaves the home.

Safety controls

Test the protections your boiler relies on.

  • Combustion testing and burner checks appropriate to your boiler.
  • Inspection and cleaning of the heat exchanger as required by the manufacturer.
  • Venting and combustion air checks.
  • Testing of applicable safety controls and operating controls.
  • Checks of pumps, zones, system pressure, and the expansion tank on hot water systems.
  • Inspection of the condensate trap, drain, and neutralizer on condensing boilers.

High efficiency boiler maintenance is $175. Required service kits are additional. We confirm the work and price with you before proceeding.

Repair or replacement

We inspect it before recommending replacement.

An older boiler does not automatically need to be replaced. We look at its condition, safety, repair options, and service history, then talk through the choices with you.

A leak in the boiler

We identify the source and check whether repair, a replacement section, or a new boiler is the practical option.

A combustion or venting concern

Safety comes first. If equipment is unsafe to operate, it should remain off until the problem has been corrected.

A difficult-to-find part

We check parts availability and explain how cost and timing affect the repair options.

Repeated breakdowns

We review the repair history and condition of the equipment before comparing another repair with replacement.

A significant repair bill

We can price a repair and a suitable replacement so you can compare the scope and cost.

A repair that makes sense

If the boiler can be repaired safely and the repair is worthwhile, we will explain that option.

Boiler installation

Installed carefully. Tested before we leave.

Your boiler, venting, piping, and controls need to work together. We follow the equipment requirements, check operation, and explain the system to you. Regular professional maintenance remains essential after installation.

  • Equipment sized for the heating system and the needs of your home. Steam boiler sizing includes the connected radiation.
  • Piping and circulators arranged to meet the boiler manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Venting and combustion air provided for the equipment being installed.
  • Condensate drainage and treatment where required for condensing equipment.
  • Startup checks, combustion testing, and verification of heating zone operation.
  • A walkthrough of the controls and maintenance needs before we finish.

Boiler service questions

Answers to common boiler questions.

Do you service older boilers?
Yes. We work on gas and oil boilers, including cast iron, steam, hot water, and high efficiency systems. We inspect the equipment and explain the work it needs before you approve repairs.
My pressure gauge reads zero. Should I add water?
Call us before adding water or trying to restart the boiler. The correct pressure depends on the system, and a zero reading needs to be checked. Do not add cold water to a hot boiler or repeatedly reset a burner that will not start.
Why is one radiator cold?
The cause depends on whether you have steam or hot water heat. Air, a valve, a vent, or a circulation problem may be involved. We check the radiator and the system before recommending a repair.
How often should my boiler be serviced?
Have a qualified technician service your boiler annually and follow the maintenance requirements for your model. Gas, oil, cast iron, and condensing boilers all need regular attention. A boiler can still produce heat while combustion, venting, or a safety control needs service.
Can I keep my boiler and add air conditioning?
Often, yes. Ductless mini splits can provide cooling without removing your boiler. We can also compare a ducted system if the layout allows. We review the house and your comfort needs before recommending an approach.
What should I do if the relief valve is leaking?
Keep clear of the discharge, which may be very hot, and call for service. Never cap or plug a relief valve or its discharge pipe. We need to check both the valve and the operating conditions that may be causing the leak.
What does a boiler replacement cost?
The price depends on the boiler, fuel, venting, piping, controls, and work needed in your home. We inspect the installation and provide a written proposal so you can review the equipment, scope, and price.
